Planet Gallery - Jupiter

This is an animation of 19 images of Jupiter taken over 3 hours on 15th January 2002. The rotation of Jupiter's disc between the images can be clearly seen. Also apparent is the variability of the seeing conditions during this winter evening.

Jupiter's largest moon, Ganymede, is visible to the left of the image. Ganymede's shadow transits Jupiter in the early frames.

The volcanic moon, Io, is emerging to the right of Jupiter.

(Note: North is downwards).

This is an animation of two images of Jupiter taken 40 minutes apart on 1st November 2001. The rotation of Jupiter's disc between the two images can be seen. Jupiter's largest moon, Ganymede, is visible to the right in the second frame.

(Note: both images have North downwards, rotation is right to left).
